Welcome to the Emita II's Blog!

Hi Emita II Fans!  Since the Summer of 1974 the Emita II has dutifully traveled the Erie Canal and introduced its beauty, engineering excellence and splendor to hundreds of thousands of passengers.  Her reign on the Erie Canal has ended, however, and she is headed to Michigan City, Indiana to become a tour boat on Lake Michigan.  Many of you have asked Dan and I to create a blog so you can travel with her to her new home, so here you go!  Please be patient with us because making a blog, oh and moving a boat through the Erie Canal to Lake Erie to Lake Huron and to Lake Michigan is all uncharted territory for us! But you have each been a part of her amazing history and we know you want to be a part of her next adventure.

Dan and I (oh and Winnie!) will leave Dutchman's Landing with her for the last time tomorrow morning and will head to Mid-Lakes Landing Marina where she will stay for a few days until we get the ok to move her through the rest of the Erie Canal toward Buffalo.  The Canal officially opens on May 15, but as a commercial vessel we are planning on getting earlier clearance.  Dan thinks the trip will take about 2 weeks, but what do we know about planning on the Canal? Don't!  :-)  "Canaling isn't an exact science" so hopefully this blog will keep you updated and interested.

Crew:  Dan will be the main Captain for this trip, of course.  I will be traveling from Dutchman's to Erie, PA, and then returning home.  Captains Steve Wunder, Duane Morton and Ben Horne will accompany Dan and the Emita for the trip from the Marina to Michigan City.  The Emita is in very good hands!

So I will add things as I think of them and thank you for coming along for the ride!

    1. Hi Tom! I'll let the Captain tell you some of the specifics but yes, radar, a life raft, and some things "to be named later". Most of the equipment won't come into play until we leave the Canal system, especially because of the bridges out west.

  4. Hi Lisa & Dan. I’m trying to reply because I want to ride the boat at least on my iPhone. My last reply didn’t come through but I’m grateful for this blog. It’s uncle Bill.- the water boy!
